Platinum jewellery can bring an "outfit to a new level"

Women can bring an "outfit to a new level" by adding platinum jewellery to their look, according to a fashion website.

Statement earrings, bracelets, rings and pendants are all pieces of jewellery that can breathe life into their appearance and add a focal point to what somebody is wearing.

Michelle LaFrance, writing for The Seattle Times, said that those who have cool tones of garments and skin could wear platinum jewellery to compliment one another.

She advised that "pairing a sheath dress or shapely little black dress with a bold necklace is a great look" and that a pendant "can be passed down from generation to generation as an heirloom piece is a lovely piece of jewellery to own".

Platinum jewellery is becoming increasingly sought after as more pieces are put up for auction and snapped up quickly.

Time Out highlights platinum engagement ring in New York jewellery store

Time Out has named unusual jewellery as one of its favourite things about Van Brunt Street in New York, picking out Art Deco platinum rings as must-see items.

According to a feature on the website, the shopping boulevard has a whole host of different shops to suit all tastes, including old-fashioned chocolate chip cookie bakeries and home furniture stores.

But one of the article's favourite places to visit on the street was the Erie Basin jewellers, "a darkly romantic jewellery store" that displays pieces in "museum-quality cases".

It recommends couples thinking about buying an engagement ring to head to the store to see an Art Deco platinum and diamond ring from the 1920s with values between $325 and $2,950.

Laura Leton, writing for brooklynexposed.com, said that the jewellers is always worth keeping an eye on.

"They’re especially known for their brooches and incredible engagement rings in case you’re looking for something a little more unusual," she wrote.

"The stock changes constantly so it’s always fun to take a look and see what’s been found."

She sang: "Thirty-two and still growing up now; who you are is not what you did."

Away from the stage, Ms Swift has recorded a new album – Speak Now – which is set for release in the US on October 25th.

Taylor Swift and Fearless, her previous two albums, were at number six and number three in the US charts at the end of 2008.

Ulysse Nardin to release limited edition platinum watch

To celebrate the 75th birthday of owner and president, Rolf Schnyder, the brand Ulysse Nardin will be introducing a limited edition Freak Diavolo in platinum, complete with Schnyder’s signature on the case.

This special Freak, limited to 75 pieces worldwide, was chosen because the Freak is emblematic of the innovation that has characterised Ulysse Nardin since its rebirth.

Schnyder bought the brand back in 1983, at a time when Switzerland’s watch industry was suffering due to the arrival of the quartz age. According to Schnyder, Ulysse Nardin was little more than a shell, a carcass with a famous name.

He set about transforming the brand and since then it has become a leader in the adoption of new materials, new technologies and new ways of doing things.

“Almost 30 years ago, I bought Ulysse Nardin, a calculated risk as I believed there was a strong chance that unique, innovative mechanical watches could thrive, and it turns out I was right,” Schnyder explains. “I fell in love with this grand old brand and our new innovative direction.”

As Schnyder describes it, the Freak shook up and inspired the watch making fraternity. The Freak combined technical innovation with a revolutionary aesthetic. A Carrousel Tourbillion without crown, no hands, no dial and with a novel Dual Direct escapement made in a new light weight material – silicium – which required no lubrication.

“To celebrate my 75th birthday, I’ve chosen the Freak because it was a historic breakthrough for Ulysse Nardin and for the watch industry in general, and it is by far our most important piece.”

The Mad Men and West Wing star was picked out by the Telegraph as the one winner in the style stakes at this year's Primetime television award ceremony.

Kate Finnigan, style director of the Telegraph's Stella magazine, said that the star was the complete contrast to her on-screen character.

"So this was the night for Elisabeth Moss aka Peggy Olsen - the feisty career girl who would rather impress with her tight copy than her tight skirt (yay, Peggy!) - to shine," she said.

"Moss' frumpier onscreen wardrobe leaves her with less to prove but don't let's take away from her success."

Ms Moss was nominated for the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama award, but lost to Archie Panjabi from The Good Wife.
