New platinum watch by A. Lange & Söhne.

Anyone looking to get their hands on an exclusive platinum watch may be interested to hear about a new timepiece from A. Lange & Sohne.

The German company has created a new model, the Richard Lange Referenzuhr, which uses the precious metal to make it stand out from the crowd.

Featuring a large balance wheel as well as winding trains and lever mechanisms that are visible through the sapphire crystal rear, the watches have a 40.5 millimeter case, giving it real presence.
Meanwhile, the watch is finished off with a platinum buckle and a black, hand-stitched crocodile strap.

Only 50 of these watches have been made, ensuring their collectable qualities and exclusivity and setting them above pink gold versions of the same model, of which 75 have been made.

As recent auctions have shown, platinum watches often gain value over time, while the precious metal remains a popular choice for horologists when it comes to creating limited edition timepieces.

A 0.10 ct round natural fancy intense yellow diamond crowns a ring encrusted with tiny white diamonds all around.

Vertu creates platinum phones

Platinum is one of the precious materials highlighted in a peek into the world of luxury phones.

In an article for the New York Times, Amy Wallace looks at the "communications devices" from Vertu, which makes high-end phones combining style, functionality and beauty.

The phones sell from anything between $5,000 and $325,000, making them suitable for only the wealthiest of customers, and are made of precious metals such as platinum, as well as incorporating diamonds, leather and sapphire.

A designer from the company points out that devices such as mobile phones, which are used and carried by everyone, should be stylish, just like a watch.

The author says: "Vertu phones feel good in the hand. They're just heavy enough to connote solidity, but not so heavy that they drag down your jacket pocket. They flip open with a slow, exacting movement."
While Vertu makes new phones with platinum, the precious metal has also been integrated into other handsets, such as the Nokia Supreme by British designer Stuart Hughes.

New platinum watch from Grieb & Benzinger

A new platinum watch based on classic creations of the past has been unveiled by Grieb & Benzinger.

Grieb & Benzinger said: "This unique watch concept means pure luxury, exclusivity and uniqueness combined with historical watch making.
