Kate Winslet and Claire Danes wear platinum jewellery to BAFTA Awards

Kate Winslet once again lit up an awards ceremony red carpet with her platinum jewellery.

The much-loved British actress wore drop earrings with diamonds and jade set in platinum and a bracelet with diamonds and black onyx set in platinum, all by Tiffany & Co, to the BAFTA Awards in London.

Kate Winslet has worn Tiffany jewellery throughout the awards season, a habit that could continue at the Oscars, which will be on March 7th at the Kodak Theater, Los Angles.

Clare Danes opted for platinum drop earrings with diamonds and a multi-chain platinum bracelet with diamonds from Tiffany & Co's collection.

This years BAFTA Awards saw Carey Mulligan pick up the 'Best Actress' award for her role in 'An Education' while Colin Firth was named 'Best Actor' for his turn in 'A Single Man'.

Other winners on the night included Mo'Nique and Christopher Waltz with legendary actress Vanessa Redgrave getting the 'Academy Fellowship' for her stellar career.

Russian figure skater thinks platinum is the best

Russian figure skater Yevgeny Plushenko has reportedly found comfort in awarding himself a platinum medal at the Winter Olympics.

Plushenko finished as runner-up behind American Evan Lysacek in the men's contest in Vancouver recently.Instead of listing the medal as silver on his website, numerous reports have said that he called it the 'Plushenko Platinum'.
 Clearly knowledgeable about the purity and rarity of the precious metal, the Russian seemed to have chosen something that would elevate himself above the gold medal, which he believes he deserved.
 The website has since been amended so that there is no label beneath the medal, although a number of news outlets have shown screen captures from before.

Plushenko's failure to win the event was seen by many as a shock as he was the favourite in the category, having won four years ago in Turin.
 While his performance was more technical than Lysacek's, it did feature some mistakes, paving the way for the American to win the event.

Limited edition platinum sunglasses from Bentley

Luxury carmaker Bentley has released a limited edition pair of platinum sunglasses.

The exclusive items have been made in partnership with Austrian company Estede and are priced at just over $15,000.

Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, the sunglasses are available in platinum.

Bentley claims that it is the first time platinum has been used in the making of sunglasses and that they will "establish a precedent in the eyewear sector".

Each pair will come with its number engraved while owners could also have their name or Bentley car model engraved too.

The glasses form part of the company's new boutique which also includes other luxury items such as pens and skis.

Bentley is considered to be one of the top luxury car brands in the world with recent models including the Zagato GTZ and the Brooklands coupe.

The company was founded in 1919 in England, although there is now a demand for its vehicles around the world.

Vacheron Constantin unveils limited edition platinum watch

Vacheron Constantin has unveiled its latest creation, an exclusive platinum watch.

The Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Traditionnelle Calibre 2253 was on show at the 2010 Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie, according to ViaLuxe.

Other features of the limited edition watch include a power reserve of 336 hours and, as a show of the craftsmanship that has gone into it, a tourbillon.
Further complications include a Perpetual calendar and an equation of time, sunset and sunrise.

Other manufacturers to recently use the precious metal have been Breguet, Omega and Patek Philippe.The Swiss watchmaker is renowned for its exceptional creations, and the new timepiece, of which only ten will be made, is part of the Collection Excellence Platine.
As well as the case, the dial is also made from platinum, as are the crown and the folding clasp in the shape of a halved Maltese Cross.

Urwerk releases limited edition black platinum watch

Urwerk has become the latest company to release a limited edition platinum watch.

The UR-203 features a satellite complication, telescopic hands showing the minutes and rotating mechanisms that indicate the hours, while an 'oil change' indicator shows when it needs servicing.
An automatic winding mechanism can be regulated by three settings - free, sport or stop - depending on what sort of forces will be exerted on it.

The intricate mechanisms are cased in platinum, with a black coating giving the watch, of which only 20 will be made, a formidable look.

Felix Baumgartner, master watchmaker at Urwerk, said: "The horological challenge with this complication was to develop a complex mechanism with the minimum of components to ensure its reliability and longevity."

Omega recently introduced a more traditional platinum watch in the form of the Skeletonized Central Tourbillon Co-Axial Platinum Limited Edition.

Another prestigious watchmaker to follow the same route of choosing the precious metal was Breguet, with the Tradition Tourbillon Fuse Silicium 7047.

Grey's Anatomy star designs her own platinum engagement ring

Leven Rambin has chosen a platinum engagement ring that she helped design, it has been reported.

According to People, the actress said "yes" to producer Geoff Clark recently, and she decided to help create the engagement ring with jeweler Luscious.

Eventually, the 'Grey's Anatomy' star received a ring with a pink tourmaline stone and floral detail, all on a platinum band.
Leven told People: "I really wanted something that looked 'antiquey' and unique. It's very feminine and very me."


She added that, despite only going out with Clark for six months, she was desperate for him to pop the question, and that, at 19, she is not too young to be getting married.

Leven has previously starred in 'Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles' and 'All My Children' as well as the film 'Gigantic' and is set to appear in 'Case 219' later this year.

Prestigious Cartier platinum brooches on display in San Francisco

An exceptional platinum auction item is currently on display in San Francisco, set to go on sale soon.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, The Cartier panther brooch is currently held by Stephen Silver Fine Jewellery, which describes it as "most important acquisitions in our company's nearly 30 year history".

Coming from the collection of "a prominent California family", the platinum brooch, which is decked in diamond and Burma sapphire, is the second largest brooch ever made by Cartier.

It is modeled on one that used to belong to the Duchess of Windsor, and was commissioned by a wealthy lady who failed to buy the original at an auction in 1986.


Interestingly, the original, made in 1949, is on display in San Francisco right now as part of the 'Cartier in America' exhibition at The Legion of Honor.

Model Katie Price has finally revealed her platinum wedding ring to the world, a British newspaper has reported.
The Daily Mail says that she was seen wearing a "thick set platinum panelled band encrusted with small diamonds" as she visited a store in Las Vegas.

Tiffany & Co. has released some new platinum rings just in time for Valentine's Day.

The latest in the Celebration range feature sparkling diamonds pink sapphires, providing an alternative to the red colors that dominate the season.
