Seiko launches platinum watch for the 50th anniversary of Grand Seiko range

Watch brand Seiko has launched a platinum watch in order to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Grand Seiko range.

The company's Grand Seiko Anniversary Collection watch range contains a number of timepieces, including both quartz and mechanical models.

The Caliber 9R15, an updated version of the brand's 965 Spring Drive watch, is available to buy in platinum and comes complete with a crocodile strap.

All watches from the range are finished with an inscription reading "50th Anniversary 1960-2010" along with the Grand Seiko lion emblem on the dial.

A statement from the watch manufacturer said: "Grand Seiko is, and always has been, the most beautiful, functional and simple watch that Seiko can build.

"From the very first Grand Seiko watch in 1960, until the all-new 36,000 vph automatic caliber of today, every Grand Seiko watch has shared the functional beauty and design purity that are now its hallmark."

Seiko was first established in 1881 when Kintaro Hattori opened a jewelry shop named K Hattori. The first watches to be produced under the Seiko brand name appeared in 1924.
